    As digital cameras are typically not collectable and depreciate when the new model comes out its not a collector’s piece As a user camera, the boxy shape and difficulty using the rear display in sunlight make the camera an unpleasant experience The viewfinder and grip look awful and I would have thought this would have been rectified in this second generation camera I would guess 90% of people including myself trade the camera in and buy years far more practicle X2D

    This lens should be ignored if you have the EF version because it performs poorly regarding chromatic aberration and longitudinal chromatic aberration compared to the EF version. Inexplicably, Canon omitted the BR Optics element. Just use the 35mm f/1.4L II with an adapter.

    You should be reviewing mirco 4/3rds cameras. I was an early adopter and bought the original Panasonic mirrorless camera when Panasonic and Olympus pioneered the format and system 12-13 years ago. Since then lenses are usable across those two manufacturers, I've bounced between bodies from the two makers over the years. I have exhibited work with images from these cameras and I think they are grossly under-estimated.

    Can you change the function on one of the two buttons on the back to be a "back focus button"? With my Canon and Olympus cameras I use, and strongly prefer, a back focus button. It holds the focus distance through multiple exposures until you use the back focus button again to focus at a different distance. It eliminates the need to focus and re-frame with every exposure if you're using the halfway pressure on the exposure release button.

    • @btonelli

    This is advertisement, even if unpaid. If you didn't buy the camera, and have zero affiliation with the company, then they aren't your thoughts. Lets quit normalizing influencers with early release cameras as "reviewers". If you said it was an overpriced piece of trash with an eight year old sensor and contrast detect, Leica wouldn't send you anything else. All credibility lost.

      One is a 35 kit lens so to speak and one is an L Lens. It’s less than the 50 1.2, 85 1.2 and smaller, performs better than the Sigma 35 1.4 but there is no Sigma RF version so doesn’t matter, priced comparable to Sony 35mm f1.4 and yet some say it’s expensive. I find it funny I’ve watched a few videos, minimal examples. Maybe a handful of images and then they judge. Take it out and photograph with it. Real world usage is much better than pixel peeping

    • @DriveCancelDC
      @DriveCancelDC 17 часов назад

      If you start looking at it in terms of dollar value and worth, you are gonna quickly find that almost all expensive lenses are terrible value for money vs. the cheaper options. I think your expectations are too high, this lens already outperforms the EF 35 f/1.4 L II which is one of the best 35mm lenses ever made. Does it outperform the Sony GM? Haven't seen any comparisons, but even if it's only on par with it then that's still amazing as the GM is probably the best 35 f/1.4 on the market. Before the Sony 35 GM, I think the EF 35 f/1.4 L II was the best 35mm out there, or top 3, so considering this lens beats that and also beats the Sigma 35 f/1.2 it's hard to complain too much I think. We're talking about some of the best 35s ever made here.

    • @btonelli
      @btonelli 18 часов назад

      Thank you. I would say depends on your side of sculptors. If they are quite large you may want something lighter like the 38mm to get everything in frame but if they are small the 55 is good too. Most lenses are well corrected but there will be some slight vignetting wide open. It’s not something that bothers me much but I’m guessing you will be stopping down on the aperture to get everything in focus which will alleviate that.

    I made the switch from canon to Sony just over a year ago and have to say I didn’t care for it at first but I got quite used to using the aperture ring on the GM’s for photo. It’s a little disappointing that the RF 35 ring only works for video and only “new bodies” will support the ring for photo. Sounds like the lens is more after competing for a compact 35 like the GM and trying to mimic what it has. I think a lot of people were really banking and hoping it would have been a 1.2, but at the same time the 1.4’s offer something compact

    As someone that likes Leica cameras, this is BS. Leica needed to have at the very least upgraded the sensor and added phase AF. The same exact camera as the previous one allover again (and that was already a clone to start with) just in a new box and with new menus doesn't cut it, sorry. This is almost 10 year old tech needing far more than new makeup to justify a new model name or this kind of cost. I have a Q3, upgaded from an original Q and I can firmly say that the 3 generations have been palpable upgrades and paths forward. The D-Lux 8 is plain non-sense just to have something to release in this new idiotic and stupid wave and hype of retro compact cameras. And made in China DOES MATTER for something supposedly of this category and status. Leica should have done much better and had plenty of time to do so. No excuses.

    Gosh, without a doubt, there is no surprise that this was going to be a controversial lens! Hence, my apprehension when I pre-ordered it a few weeks ago. I’ve now had the pleasure to have own it for a week, and thanks to my prolonged 4th of July “staycation,” I’ve been able to use it daily and it has not left my R5 since. I can honestly say that this is a beautiful lens that renders super sharp images with character (not clinical!) and gorgeous colors and micro contrast to boot! Despite the purported “flaws”, of which I have not noticed /experienced, this 35mm surpasses the EF version and definitely the RF 1.8 version, both of which I own! And about that rattle?! Such an overblown “issue”! I noticed it once on day one and completely forgot about it! This is not the first lens to do this - my EF 85mm 1.4 IS rattles more than this! You may be right for videography, can’t judge, I am not, but for photography this thing is subpar from what I have seen. Just look at the size of the front lens, it screams lemon shape specular highlights together with heavy mechanical vignetting. And it shows at images linked at fredmiranda to photos.google. The bean counters at Canon can’t yet bend physics. And the flaring and huge loss of contrast in backlighting. And the extremely poor distortion correction. To me as a photographer, it is an insult to carry the L badge and associated price tag. I think there's a number of reasons why the new RF 35 f1.4 is getting heavily criticized. First, the plastic built took some time to get used to, now the L lenses are going to rattle? The build quality could've been better. Secondly, Canon shooters were waiting almost 5 years for a 35mm L series lens. Canon is arguably the leading company in imaging. 5 years for this, is a little anticlimactic, especially since Sigma just released a 28-45 f1.8. Lastly, the camera community is very passionate and opinionated, anything less than a perfect Canon RF 35mm f1.2, they would've probably hated it. This is probably a fine lens, and I'm sure creators will give it a chance. Canon has not opened the mount up for full frame yet, what choice do they have? Great video!

      Plastic build? Nothing new, Sony have been doing that for years with GM line, and so have Canon even on EF mount... Rattle? It’s significantly smaller compared to the X100VI. I originally got the X100VI to have a compact camera that fits in a pocket. After three months of shooting with the Fuji, I wasn’t impressed and sold it at a small profit. I then got this D-Lux 8 since Friday. It’s half the weight (I had a grip and Squarehood on my X100V), much smaller (it actually fits in a pocket), and the zoom is fantastic to have. Yes, it has less resolution, but the X100VI’s lens isn’t really capable of handling its 40MP sensor. Plus it’s noisy too. The Fuji is a fun camera but it didn’t do it for me. Thanks for watching. Most primes below 100mm don’t have IBIS like this. Canon doesn’t, Nikon doesn’t, Leica doesn’t etc. Most of the full frame Canon cameras have a wobble. This was shown a while ago even with the 15-35. Peter McKinnons vids would have this and others talked about it. When I was using it I didn’t notice any wobble but I’m doing slow movements, not vlogging or walking with the lens. Lecia really need to get back to their game of making high quality lens to justify their premium price nowadays. The 28mm 1.4 Summilux was amazing when it was announced and the price was justified because no one was able to do it as well as Leica for the 28mm lens in terms of high image quality in a very compact body. Even the Zeiss 28mm F2.8 was not that small for a much slower F2.8 max aperture. Fast-forwarding for almost a decide, Vogitlander/Cosina and these new Chinese companies finally figured it out with patent expirations of the older lens and improved computer software for lens simulation and design. I can't wait for Leica to bring back their A-game. Before they do that, I will stick with these third party lens and older Leica summicrons.

    • @btonelli

      My personal take is Leica has achieved all it can now with the M lenses and in time others will catch up. The latest APO 35 and the older 50 are phenomenal lenses that still have the edge over third party lenses but of course at a premium. The Summilux line is getting close focusing but this is also being done by other companies now. The M will always be the foundation for Leica but in time it will be the SL system that dictates the future I feel

    • @KeeeeenW
      @KeeeeenW 2 дня назад

      @@btonelli You're right that Leica is probably focusing most of their R&D on the SL system (and possibly the rumored medium format system). This reminds me of the technical video (ruclips.net/video/_vyoAIOTIcs/видео.html) from Leica showcasing the SL system and the 35mm SL APO lens. They claim that the 35mm SL APO can resolve a full-frame sensor with more than 100MP resolution, which doesn't yet exist for consumers, among other innovations. The Leica M 35mm and 50mm APOs are excellent, using a lot of premium glass materials, which somewhat justifies their high price (I guess this is also true for the 28mm Summilux). I don't own any APO lenses, but I've heard that the Voigtlander APO Lanthar 35mm F2, which I have for my M cameras, has very similar image quality but is larger in size and does not close focusing capabilities.
